Where You Should Stay in Komodo

After a flight from Bali to Flores and a boat ride to a tiny island called Seraya Kecil, our arrival at the topical paradise of Sudamala Resort, Seraya was right out of a dream. Crystal clear waters lined with bright white sand beaches, a beachfront pool, and a gorgeous lively reef were just the beginning. The kind and attentive staff made us feel right at home as they welcomed us with a tropical drink and showed us to our very own beachfront bungalow...it felt like we were on a private island...a honeymooners paradise.

This intimate resort was the perfect place to stay during our visit to Komodo National Park. As one of the most beautiful diving destinations in the world, we were really excited to spend a few days exploring with the world-class PADI team at the Aqura Dive Center on site. Since I had never been diving before, I decided to do a Discover Dive - which was absolutely incredible! I was able to go on two full dives with a personal instructor in the ocean after a quick training.

We started off our day trekking one of the two islands in the world where Komodo Dragons live - Rinca Island. From there we went diving in some of the most vibrant reefs in the world. During our first dive we saw over 5 sea turtles and hundreds of tropical fish throughout a colorful and untouched reef. Our second dive took place at a Manta Ray cleaning station - we were dropped into a current and landed right below about 20 massive and gorgeous Mantas as they swam above us on the surface of the water.

I still have shivers from how magical that experience was. I always thought that you had to go through a dive certification to go diving in the ocean and I'm so glad that I learned about the Discover Dive - don't miss out if you only have a few days on a tropical island.

This has been one of the highlights of our time in Indonesia so far. From glistening turquoise water to watching the sunrise AND sunset over the ocean...it was a magical weekend at Seraya Resort
