How I Keep My Skin Healthy When I Travel
I've always been really into skincare, but after moving to Bali and starting to travel full-time, the hundred-step process just wasn't going to work for me anymore. Not only is the space in my suitcase limited, but I also wanted to purify my process and be more gentle on my skin. I've since nailed down a 5-step skincare routine that's easy to travel with and my skin has never felt better.
Here's a little breakdown of the products that I'm currently using:
I love this Soy Face Cleanser by Fresh because it's gentle on my skin and makes me feel refreshed in the morning. It's rich in amino acids, and the natural ingredients include rosewater and cucumber, which balance and calm tired skin. It's sold in 1.6fl oz bottles which makes it small enough for your carry-on.
At night, I switch off between this cleanser and a more exfoliating one: Boscia's Charcoal Deep-Pore Cleansing Stick.
Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner has won my heart over. I've tried a few different toners over the years and while I also loved the Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Lotion, Thayers is the winner for me. The combination of witch hazel and rose water help restore dehydration, giving my skin a natural glow. Rose petal also contains Vitamin C, which is crucial for collagen production. Added bonus: the rosy smell is so yummy! I committed to a large bottle of this to keep at home, but Thayers carries a 3oz travel size as well.
After perusing the 13 colorful bottles of It's SKIN Power 10 Serums a few too many times in the Singapore airport, I finally did my research and selected these two: the VC Effector and the CO Effector.
In the morning I apply the VC Effector, which contains Vitamin C and Green Tea. It brightens and evens out my skin tone, giving it a soft glow for the day ahead.
I apply the CO Effector before bed for overnight hydration. This serum contains Phyto Collagen, which increases elasticity and moisture - I always wake up feeling revitalized.
*One of the main reasons I tried these was the price tag of $11 per bottle - a fraction of what I spent on other serums in the past.
This Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream by Origins has been a staple in my medicine cabinet for years. It's really the best way to wake up - like having a morning coffee that's dedicated to my eyes. The silky pink cream has an instant cooling effect that depuffs my undereyes, while creating a beautiful glow that makes me feel alive no matter how early in the morning it is, or how long my last flight was. With active ingredients like coffee beans, ginseng and magnolia extract, there's no doubt that this eye cream will brighten anyone's day. This is one of those products that I'm always buying refills of instead of trying the next hot thing - I just can't get enough.
